For my birthday this year I would like to do a trip to central Nevada to bag a peak that is on the Sierra Club DPS Peaks, the LVMC Classic 50 Peaks, and the Ultra 57 Peaks lists. Arc Dome is a Nevada Classic and should see very little other people.
Read This Part Before Getting On The Waitlist! This is a drive up past Tonopah with lots of dirt roads. The last bit to the Columbine Campground is High Clearance and potentially 4WD. We only have room for us (Maggie, Daisy, and I) and our camping gear. If you would like to do this trip, you must have your own transportation and gear. We can meet up before the drive so you can follow us.
Now onto the business. We will leave Las Vegas on Friday, June 26th early in the day (we will determine a meet up location if necessary). We will drive up, get fuel in Tonopah before heading to the Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park to check that out since it's not far from the campground/trailhead. After that we will head to the primitive campground (it does have a pit toilet but bring your own TP) set up camp and enjoy the evening filled with stars. We can work together on a group meal beforehand. The campground is also the trailhead so that makes things easy. Saturday June 27th morning (early) we will wake up, have some breakfast and break camp before we start the hike. My plan is to ascend the Stewart Creek Trail to eventually get to Arc Dome. Return via the Toiyabe Crest Trail with optional stops at North Arc Dome and Cirque Peak along the way. When we return to the campground/trailhead everyone can either head home, or if interested we may drive to Spencer Hot Springs and camp one more night with an evening and morning soak before driving back Sunday morning.
The hike is a long one with a lot of elevation gain. It is all trail and class 1 so not difficult other than that.
STATS
HIKE: Arc Dome TRAILHEAD: Columbine Campground/Stewart Creek DISTANCE: 14ish miles ELEVATION GAIN: 4600ish feet cumulative ELEVATION PEAK: 11,778 feet TIME: 9-11 hours CLASS: 1 DANGER LEVEL: 4 due to potential summer storms PACE: Moderate
