Short days filled with desert sunshine, crisp evenings around the campfire, and long nights beneath a sky full of stars. That’s what winter camping is all about in Nevada!
Come spend a weekend at Valley of Fire enjoying spectacular scenery, hiking, stargazing, and the company of friends.
We’ll spend two nights surrounded by beautiful red sandstone formations and sweeping desert views. Stay for one or both evenings!
We’ll be staying at Group Campsite 1. Tent camping.
This is a relaxed, PG-13 campout with plenty of time to explore, hike, hang around the fire, and enjoy the company of fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
Activities
Expect campfires, s’mores, cooking, stories, music, and the opportunity to make new friends!
Saturday Morning Hiking: We’ll plan a hike, with details to be announced. Hikes will be posted as separate events on Meetup.
Saturday Potluck: Bring something delicious to share! Homemade specialties, simple camp favorites, and everything in between are welcome.
Music Around the Campfire: If you have an instrument, please bring it! I’ll have my violin, and we’ll make some music around the campfire.
There’s no pressure to participate in everything. Enjoy the weekend at your own pace!
What Should I Bring?
Bring your regular tent camping equipment, plus warm layers for chilly desert nights, a cooler, camp chairs, and a daypack for hiking.
Firewood: Please bring firewood to contribute to our evening campfires. The more we have, the longer we can enjoy the warmth!
Campsite Amenities
Our group campsite includes picnic shelters, running water, charcoal grills, and pit toilets. Showers are available at nearby Atlatl Campground.
Cost
Group Campsite Contribution: $10 per person, per night to help cover the campsite reservation.
Getting Into the Park
In addition to the $10 per-person, per-night group campsite contribution, each vehicle must pay the applicable park camping/entrance fee upon arrival.
Nevada-plated vehicles: $20 per vehicle, per night.
Out-of-state vehicles: $25 per vehicle, per night.
Nevada State Parks Annual Passes: Annual Day Use and All Access passes are available, along with qualifying senior and veteran permits.
Carpooling is strongly encouraged! Let’s coordinate rides in the comments. Overnight parking is permitted at the truck stop in Moapa; you can leave your vehicle there and arrange for one of us to pick you up for the trip into the park.
Pets
Well-mannered, leashed pets are welcome. Please clean up after your furry companions.

Whether you’re coming with friends or showing up solo, there’s always room around the campfire.
