EASY HIKE: Cathedral Rock

Join me for a fun hike to Cathedral Rock on Sunday, August 23, 2026! (read everything)

Things to bring: Water (minimum 2L), lunch, jacket, sunblock, bag/backpack.

The hike is all trail. No climbing or off-trail hiking is needed. We'll go at the pace of the slowest person, so nobody is left behind.

This is a beautiful hike, with an even better summit view! If we're lucky, we'll see the Mount Charleston Chipmunk (only place in the world they live).

We'll hike up through a Pine-Fir forest, passing through an avalanche chute filled with Aspens, as we make our way up towards the backside of Cathedral Rock. Once there, a few short, steep switchbacks will take us to the summit, where we'll have a gorgeous view looking down into Kyle Canyon. We'll enjoy a short lunch break at the top, then take a side trail a short ways from the summit to find a quiet spot for a 10 minute silent meditation, before hiking back the same way we came. Be prepared to stop on the way down for some berry picking!

*** CAUTION FOR NEWER HIKERS*** Hiking at higher elevations is a lot more difficult than in the Las Vegas valley. Make sure you drink a lot of water for the week leading up to the hike and ESPECIALLY the day before. Altitude sickness is no joke and can happen to anyone. Taking Ginkgo Biloba supplements in the days/weeks before spending time at altitude can help some people to acclimate easier, as it allows more oxygen into the bloodstream.

*** CAUTIONS FOR DOG OWNERS ***

• You don't have to keep your dog on leash, but you should have a leash with you. There are steep drop-offs at the top of Cathedral Rock.
• There are wild animals around, including lizards, chipmunks, squirrels, bighorn sheep, wild horses, elk and wild burros.
• Bring food and water for your pups to enjoy! There will be a strict maximum of 15 people, total. Please do not bring any unapproved guests. Everyone going should be signed up on this event page, or should have made plans with me privately.
